How to Import Tally XML Vouchers into Tally (2026 Guide)
Updated 11 October 2026 · 3 min read
A converted XML only saves time if it drops into Tally without errors. Most import failures come down to three things: the company is wrong, a ledger is missing, or the file was generated for a different setup. Here is a safe routine.
Open the right company
Switch to the company the conversion was prepared for. The company name typed in Entrifix is a label on the file - Tally imports into whichever company is open.
Create the bank ledger first
Make sure the bank ledger exists with the exact name you typed in Entrifix (for example 'HDFC Bank - 1234'). The XML creates the other ledgers automatically, but never the bank ledger.
Import the XML
Go to Gateway of Tally, then Import, then Vouchers (Alt+F3 in some releases). Select the downloaded file and confirm. Tally reports the number of vouchers imported.
Verify the result
Open the bank ledger and compare the closing balance with the statement. Spot-check two or three vouchers for date, amount sign and narration, then run your usual bank reconciliation.
Practice on a test company
The first time you use a new conversion format, import into a test company. If anything is off - wrong signs, missing ledgers, mislabelled references - fix it there before touching live books. Once the routine is proven, the real import takes seconds.
If Tally shows an error during import
- Missing ledger: the bank ledger does not exist with that exact name - create it or correct the name in Entrifix and re-download.
- Zero vouchers imported: the XML was opened in the wrong company or an old Tally release rejected the envelope - re-export and check the Tally version.
- Wrong amounts: check whether the statement used Dr/Cr notation that was read the other way - pick the exact bank format in the converter and convert again.
Common questions
The XML creates Suspense and the counter ledger names it uses. Your bank ledger must already exist in the company - create it first, or make sure the exact name typed in Entrifix matches the existing ledger.
Gateway of Tally, then Import, then Vouchers (the path varies slightly by Tally release - in TallyPrime it is under Import, or Alt+F3 in older versions). Select the XML file and confirm.
Import into a test company first whenever possible. If vouchers post to Suspense, rename the ledgers in Tally afterwards, or go back to Entrifix, correct the ledger names per row, and re-download before importing again.
